NWOGEO Coin
I noticed we are quickly approaching 260 members. Is there any ideas/plans to get our own geocoin? If the price was around $8 to $10 I know I'd be up for 10 or so. They'd make great FTF prizes or something to leave at milestone caches. Or something to trade at Geobash. Just wondering. Thanks. Rob

Re: NWOGEO Coin
There has been talk of this for some time amongst the steering committee...but not much in the last 6-8 weeks...maybe this thread would stimulate that!

Re: NWOGEO Coin
I talked to Mr. Moops about it at the last meet/eat, and he is worried about the possibility of the market crashing on geocoins.
I don't collect them, but I have a few and would buy 3 or 4.

Yes, the "Limited Edition 1 of only 100 Bronze, Gold, Silver, Lead, Platinum and Zinc with purple highlights and gold leaf over the muskrats face special edition of geocoins created for the 18th anniversary of Uncle Bob's Hunting and Geocaching Trip to Arkansas" market may indeed crash, but we are not mass producing a ridiculous coin to sell. (and they are indeed getting ridiculous these days)
IF (and this is purely speculative) we produced 500 NWOGEO coins, I believe that we could certainly sell a couple hundred just around NW Ohio. There'll be people that want to buy one to keep and a bunch to trade or give away. Then once the world finds out about it there'll be requests for coins from all over the country. Now I'm not suggesting we open a store to sell them like that but there are members of NWOGEO that are well known collectors and the word would get out.
Plus, the GeoBash is indeed a HUGE event and there'll be a geocoin trading area where I'd even volunteer to take a shift standing there selling coins to whoever wants them. And don't forget our fellow NEOGEO and MiGO friends, they'd buy them as well.
So what I'm saying is that I don't think the market would crash on geocoins that are of a personal sentimental value to the people that want them because they geocache and not because they collect coins. The market will crash on coins that are made for the purpose of generating feelings of materialist consumption.

I still prefer a loc-n-loc in Wildwood to a film can in a pile of glass in a parking lot.jimbobwe wrote:Who needs the metro parks to hide any ways??
