HPD NOW REQUIRES A PERMIT TO HIDE GEOCACHES AND LETTERBOXES
Geocaching is a high tech treasure hunt in which thousands of people
participate every year. Participants use a GPS (Global Positioning Systems) unit to
locate caches or “treasure chests” hidden in parks and public places around the world.
The Hancock Park District welcomes geocaching and letterboxing in its parks. In order
to limit the impact on native plants and animals in certain management areas, the
Hancock Park District is now requiring all geocaches and letterboxes hidden in the
parks to have a permit. Current caches will need to have a permit in order to remain in
the parks. Geocachers are asked to submit a permit application by November 1, 2012
for caches already hidden in the parks. After December 31, 2012, any caches found in
HPD parks without a permit will be removed. Persons wanting to place new caches in
HPD parks will need to submit a permit application and receive approval prior to placing
the cache. Applications will be reviewed by park personnel before a permit is issued.
Approved permits will expire in two years. A renewal application can be submitted at
that time. Permit applications are available at the HPD Office and at
http://www.HancockParks.com.

Re: Hancock Park District Permit
I don't see it as a big deal. Far less restrictive than some others in NW Ohio.

Re: Hancock Park District Permit
They got a new director this past year, so I think he want show more control. The last director had me take care of the cache placement. I let GC take care of the guidelines. I think I have 8 forms to fill out and also got 2 caches I need to get approve or remove.
