Thread Rename
I believe the site would be easier to navigate for new comers of "Misc Geocaching Related" were renamed to simple: "General Discussion". Just a thought.

Re: Thread Rename
I think it is fine the way it is. If its changed to just general then that leaves it open to a lot of general stuff

How about GEOCACHING RELATED?
I like the way that geochums has different geocaching related topics to foster more geocaching related talk!

Re: Thread Rename
As Dubbin1 said, renaming it to simply "General Discussion" opens that forum up to discussion that is not geocaching related.
One of the problems is that each lower level of topics in the forums almost needs part of the title from a higher level so that people notice where they are in the forum tree.
We had that problem before, so we intentionally moved around several topics and forums and renamed some of them accordingly.
There are actually "Misc" headings for more than one area. There is one under "Geocaching" and another under "Non-Geocaching".
Therefore something like "General Geocaching Discussion" may work. Then also rename the other "Misc" to "General Non-Geocaching Discussion".
The current "Misc." tend to get the most activity and the most diverse topics. As BBD implied, it is nice to have various topic names for people to see. Once a topic thread gets active enough, or important enough, we try to move it up to a higher position in the forum tree so that it can be found easier.
There are trade-offs however when topics are moved up. If too many are moved up, then navigation becomes a problem again. Also any time we make a change, people get lost for a while.

Re: Thread Rename
I guess it is just in how you see things but I feel like "Misc Geocaching" is more confusing than General Geocaching. And I guess really in the end it probably won't matter.

Re: Thread Rename
Let's get some more input on this.
Since there are only 3 votes so far, I am adding a couple more choices to see what people think.

Re: Thread Rename
Since there were so few votes, and since I added the other choices later, I went ahead and renamed the forum and changed the description. Plus the description still uses the word "misc" to help tie it back to the old name.
Hope no one objects!
Better ideas always welcome! Thanks for the suggestion DiscGolfDiver.
Now we need to rethink the hierarchy of the Off-Topic forum to give some of the more popular threads their own forum name.
Other members have also suggested to me privately that we do some pruning and maybe turn on auto pruning for some Off-Topic threads.
