Trees for party room?
So, I want to run this by you. BG Parks and Wood Co. Parks own a park together. It's called Black Swamp Preserve although I prefer the name I gave it a few years ago when I had a cache there. Thistle Park. It's adjacent to my cache "Way behind home plate" in BG. Anywho, they have received a grant for 4,000 trees to be planted there. This may get pared back to 2,000 because this winter was so mild the ground there didn't freeze and so it's not prepared to plant that many trees.
They are looking for volunteers to plant trees the weekend of April 26-28. I assume these are just 2ft. saplings. Unfortunately this is also our CITO weekend.
I was wondering if I should approach our director and see if she would give us Simpson Hall free or greatly discounted in exchange for a group of us planting trees for a few hours or half day or whatever. We had our 2011 Christmas Shindig there last year, so this would be our first time to double back on a place. However it could give us a cheap place for the party and actually get a room reserved before Nov. I know this goes against tradition of actually planning ahead for the party, but
say-la-v (sp?) or something.
I'm not going to approach her with this idea unless there is enough interest and commitment from a decent amount of people. We could do lunch afterwards at one of the many pizza places. What do you think?

I like the possibility of deep discounted location for the Christmas party.

I think the planting is scheduled for 3 days, so I don't know if we would have to do it that Sat.
Another idea is: I know the Wood Co. Parks director and since the new park is co-owned, maybe he would go for the same deal and we could get Otsego or WW Knight instead of Simpson.

it could be a geo service day for nwogeo....if it were an event, perhaps draw more in from a larger area...

Sounds like a great idea, if I have to work I could be there after 3 or 4pm

This is encouraging. If we get a little more response, I'll ask. Which place would you prefer, Otsego (WC parks) or back to Simpson (BG parks)?
