Boy Scouts of America Camperall Sept 14-16, 2007

Post by ScouterJoe »

I've just been asked to set up a geocaching activity for this boy scout event next year. It will be held at Pioneer Scout Reservation outside of Pioneer, Ohio. There are approximately 1300 acres to set up. There may be as many at 600 scouts and scouters in attendence. I'm looking for suggestions on what to do and how to do.

There could be a couple of multi of varying levels dependent on the ages involved. With these multis give different groups different coords to start at and at each cache they will get the next set of coords. This way large groups should not all arrive at the same cache at the same time.

A night cache might also be fun for the older scouts.

If you want help setting up the event just post what day/days you will be setting up the hide and you will probably get some volunteers.

I hadn't thought of a night cache! I was thinking of several match stick type containers with progressive coords leading to an ammo can with trade items in it. I like the night cache too. Volunteers would be great!

Yogi and I helped at Miokonda a few winters ago for something similar, and I got to tell you, micro's are not good for inexperienced kids. Give them something big to find, or at least limit the micro's to a very few. Nothing will discourage a kid faster that not being able to find a micro, and then being deadended and not able to go on.

Make sure they just take the coordinates and not the cache. That happen with Good Dog and I at the boy scout camp.

So I thinking, something ammo can size with progressive coords.

Yeah, that's better. Maybe a "challenge" smaller hunt with the instructions in the final regular hunt container. You can't hunt it unless you complete the regular hunt. The "challenge" could be micro's, boxes attached to tree limbs, maybe a fake out.

Are Moops containers only Moops containers if the Moops used them for containment?

SJ That was pretty good:)

I think we should start a "Cat In The Hat" forum.

Would it be possible to borrow the NWOGEO Banner for this event? Lots of skulls full of mush to impress and to recruit into our obsession.

It would be possible to borrow the banner, but first you have to find it. Good Luck.

Do you need any help setting up the course you mentioned almost a year ago? We do not have any concrete plans for Sat, Sun, or Mon.
