Water Caching

Hello. I'm trying to see how much interest there is in doing a water cache event. There is a small area on the Auglaze River that has 33 caches that are only access able by canoe or kayak. This is a few miles south of Defiance. Many cachers do not have a sea worthy vessel to use to get these caches. However after a recent trip down the Auglaze I learn of a newer canoe livery nearby. This way everybody could go that wants too. So I was thinking of trying to put together some sort of paddle party for end of Sept or early October. Please let me know as quickly as you can if you would be interested in doing this as it is almost the end of the boating season. Thanks.

We've been bugging T-Hunter to take us out to do these, since we don't own watercraft. His cost of $199 per hour seemed steep though. Our vacation though is for the last weekend of Sept thru the first one of October. :(

I would be interested, but it is looking more and more like I'll be updating my own coords around that time. I'd also be interested if they offer shuttle service for BYOBoats.

I am thinking October 5th or 6th, that way people can plan for it and it hopefully won't be too cold yet. I have find out if the livery is available for then as well.

As far as shuttle services go they should not be necessary. From the river entrance one inlet is a mile upstream and the other is 3/4 mile downstream. The river is very wide in this area. When we went down it last week we fought a head wind that was actually pushing us upriver. So all of this can be done from one entry/exit point.

Not sure the cost yet I'm going to try to get a group rate, if I can get a group. I plan to get more details by the end of the week.

I would be interested. If it is on a certain date in early October I might have to sleep boat, though.

The Fall Fling is scheduled for October 5, so if you want to maximize the number of people for this event that may not be the best date.

PADDLE PARTY

"Not all who wonder are lost….some are geocachers"
GC4MC5C
N 41° 11.707
W 084° 26.870

WHO: TEAM ICE KAT (IceFire016 & KitKat055) INVITE YOU
WHEN: Saturday October 5th
START: 9:00AM
END: We have the boats until 5:00PM or we may finish earlier.
WHERE: Auglaize River South of Defiance, OH at the above coordinates
WHY: Geocaching is fun. Kayaking is fun. GEOCACHING WHILE KAYAKING IS SUPER FUN!!! There are over 30 CACHES that are only accessible by kayak or canoe WITH TERRAIN DIFFICULTY OF 5, because of the need for a boat. They are divided into two sections. One is up river 1.5 miles from launch site and the other is 1 mile down river from the launch site. This will allow us a chance to stop half way to eat or use the nearby gas station's restrooms. There is a gas station and a restaurant at the launch site. This section of the river is dammed. So it has little to no current, making travel up river or down river no problem.

If you need to rent a boat we have a deal through:
Auglaize Canoe & Kayak
24687 Road 207
Oakwood, Oh 45873
(419)594-3456
Boat rental is $25 per person for the whole day(9am-5pm)
You will need to contact them to reserve your boat by October 2nd to guarantee that a watercraft is available. Tell them that you are with the Geocaching Paddle Party on October 5th. They accept cash or credit. However if you are using a credit card you will have to stop by the livery itself to run your card before heading to the Launch site at the posted coordinates. If you have cash then just meet at the launch site, at the posted coordinates.

IMPORTANT:
It is toward the end of boating season so right now the livery is only open on Saturdays and Sundays. If you call during the week leave a message on their machine. They told me it will be checked daily and will call you back.

**PLEASE POST A WILL ATTEND ON THE EVENT CACHE TO HELP US TO KNOW THE SIZE OF THE PARTY**

A. I'm considering it.

B. I don't know anything about a Fall Fling on that date. Can anyone elaborate?

LoCo Fall Fling

A little out of my normal "event attending" range.
