Bicycling/picnic event
I have been kicking around the idea to host an event at IDSP just East of Defiance. It would be set up to have 2 bike routes that have caches on them. One route would be for the road bikes and the other for either hiking or mountain bikes. The mountain bike trail extends from Independence Dam State Park to Florida, Ohio and has several caches along it. I am still in the process of looking into the road bike route and want to try to keep it somewhere around 15-20 miles. Then have a picnic to wrap things up for the day (maybe have picnic first then the bike trips so people could go as they wish). I am thinking about late May or early June for a timefrme.
My question is: what would the interst level be for this?

I would be interested as long as it's not 19 degrees like it is right now.

I would be interested in the road bike caches, and of course have it be 50-60 degrees with no wind if possible.....

I don't think my ass would take a 20mi ride. I would need to train and get some butt covering gel pants or something.
Re: Bicycling/picnic event
Need to make sure the caches on the road bike route are road bike friendly.
If the weather is nice, I'd probably bring both bikes along and do both, or just bring the mountain bike and suck it up for the road piece.

I agree Jason, I have both kinds of bikes as well and had that in mind. Thanks for the input.

Any horsepower limits on the bikes?

Re: Bicycling/picnic event
Would the caches be "new" I think I have Defiance and the IDSP trail pretty well cleaned out.
That said Spring sounds like a great time. It amazing how short a 20 mile bike ride is for a road bike. A 20 mike mountain bike ride on an unpaved trail is a different story.
I have a 7'x16' trailer that could be used to transport mountain bikes back to the start if necessary.

I meant ROAD BIKE SHOE ready. I wear shoes with speedplay clips. They don't handle mud well, and walking much off the road can be an issue.
I'm using eggbeaters on the mountainbike right now with mountain bike shoes - they do better.

Now that I can't guarantee. That was the problem we ran into when we did the falling waters trail in MI this year.

That Falling Waters trip was awsome. The way the Multi worked out was super.

Wait a minute, not all of us have done Eric's caches along the trail yet! Although we do own two bikes we haven't even had an opportunity to try out yet.
