Announcing the 2nd annual NCOG / COG Family Picnic. This years event will be held at McKinley Park in Marion Ohio on Saturday, September 19, 2009. Last years attendance was around 60. This year we would like to add to that number! So bring friends, family, and of course other geocachers! This event is open to all geocachers, so feel free to come to the event. There will be things to do for the entire family!

We have quite a bit lined up for this event. We will be having a cookout once again, and ask that you supply a side dish. NCOG will provide all meat (Burgers, Dogs, Sausage) again this year, as well as the condiments for these. Please see the itenerary below for more information:

Schedule of Events

10:30AM - Start Arriving. Be sure to register at registration and pick up your poker run sheet. You will also need to fill out a raffle ticket. We will also accept entries into a Unique Cache Design contest for a small prize. Entrants can either keep their cache or offer it to the raffle as a donated prize.
11:15AM - Explanation of Poker Run *(see below for explanation)
11:30AM - Start of Poker Run.
2:30PM - Deadline to check back into shelter house with your cards. No late entries accepted! Cookout will commence.
3:00PM - Kids games / activities. Prizes awarded to ALL kids who have entered.
3:45PM - Announcement of Poker Run winner. Announcement of Unique Cache Design contest. Raffle of prizes. Visit This Link to see a list of sponsors for this event. We will offer a 50/50 raffle to help offset the expenses of the event. After the winner is drawn, we will then draw from the remaining tickets for the prizes to be given away. Any money left over after the cost of the event will be used to purchase items for the local food bank / pantry.

There will be a little bit of everything for everyone at this event! We will have bean bag toss (simliar to cornhole), and various other games to play while at the event. There is AMPLE play equipment for children of all ages at the park. There will be no shortage of entertainment! If you do not want to come for the poker run, feel free to come and chat geocaching and join us for the cookout!

We will also be having a Unique Cache Design competition. Put your best work into a creative cache design and enter it into the competition. We will have a panel of judges judge them and announce the winner for a small prize at the end of the event. Entrants can either keep their designed cache or they can offer it as a donation for the raffle.

We have allowed ample time for you to find the caches at the poker run. We did this so you will have time to find some of the other caches hidden in the Marion area. If you have found all of the other caches, feel free to come back early and play some games or sit and chat about geocaching!

*Poker Run Explanation - This is a geocaching poker run. There will be 5 caches hidden in Marion. These caches will be loggable following the event. There will be cards sealed in yellow envelopes in each of the caches. Your goal? Find each of the 5 caches and keep "1" (ONE) yellow envelope from each cache. DO NOT OPEN THE ENVELOPE! If the envelope has been open or tampered with, your card in question will be disqualified from the event. After you have found all 5 caches and have removed 1 yellow envelope from each cache, bring your 5 envelopes back to the event registration table. We will tally up your cards and the person with the highest card hand wins the poker run! This is a blind poker hand as you will not know what you are taking from each cache. Each geocaching username is entitled to participate. So if you and your wife use 1 geocaching name, you can have only 1 set of cards. If you each have a geocaching username, you each can have a poker hand.
