Bike the abandoned pike

Post by harold »

In Breezewood, PA. Several caches and two turnpike tunnels to hike or bike. This is on Saturday, August 25th and I'm VERY tempted by this event. Anyone else interested?

Sounds interesting but Breezewood is about 6-7 hours one way from Monclova

If I'm able to go, I'd drive over on Friday and come back on Sunday.

If you aren't FTF, you're last to find.

We found a cache near the event location last year going to Maryland.
Looks archived now. :(
Then we found pictures of Allenite from July 2011 doing these caches.

We attempted one of them on the east end by the old service plaza, but had a tight schedule and too many possibilities. It was an interesting experience and would love to head out and go the full distance if I had the time. I'm just not sure I have the time for it at the moment.

I've put in a vacation request for this at work. Will be booking two nights at the Holiday Express in Breezewood soon. The other motels there had too many bad reviews.

We'll be dropping down US 127 to I 70 to color in some Ohio counties. Then will probably run over to New Stanton and jump on US 30 over there for the scenic route.

We should have room in our station wagon for one extra person with a standard bike. Lisa won't be riding a bike for this, so she'll be hanging back in town.

Just got the room reservations tonight, so we are definitely going.

I'm pretty sure my boss lady in charge is getting a new car next week, so we probably won't have room for anyone else unless we get a bike carrier.
