Flying with your GPSr?

Post by harold »

Are they legal to fly with spare batteries? Carry on or checked luggage?

My wife is visiting her parents before the spring thaw, and I've given her some homework to add Florida to our map for state #26.

If she can't take the GPS, just find the nearest cache with a dead-giveaway hint. :D

I always fly with mine. I refuse to pack anything I don't want stolen. I've even plugged it into my laptop with delorme streets and tracked my progress. Have to have a window seat for reception and must wait until it is ok to turn on electronic devices.

Thanks. I think I have a reason to buy a new Garmin for her to use. :D

I've printed out a couple of traditionals and an earthcache to be snagged.

Have ALWAYS carried the GPS and spare batteries in the carryon, having now visited 29 countries I would say it is not a problem so far.

I agree. I actually often use mine on the plane to see where we're at. That's how I have a max speed of 632mph :)

I have found that you do have to have a window seat to pick up any satellites. At least with my Garmin 76Cx.

Here's a good reference to what airlines allow GPSrs, and those that don't.
