Found this while caching yesterday
Can anyone help me identify what it is?
I found it in the vicinity of GC282JF, and it appears to be made of either lead or aluminum. The round part is about the size of a half dollar.
The only letters on it are "THE MASON DIS". It is obvious that there are letters/words missing.
I have no idea what it is, and was wondering if anyone on here had any idea. I initially thought of a Mason jar, but have no idea if that is right or not.

The Mason Distillery in Sausalito Calif. makers of medicinal alcohol. Maybe an old cap?

Re: Found this while caching yesterday
The outside diameter appears to be the same size as a Mason jar. I guess it is made out of zinc.
Thanks for the help!

Re: Found this while caching yesterday
Looks like The Mason Distillery was wrong.
It appears to be a Mason jar fruit jar closure. More specifically, THE MASON DISK PROTECTOR CAP. I can't read all of the writing in this ebay pic, but it does have the date of 1880.
The one in the picture recently sold for $169.

Yours would have been worth in complete condition, with the decoration on it.

Re: Found this while caching yesterday
Yeah, I figured that the one I found might be worth a couple of bucks. That is just because of the cost of zinc.
I still think it is a cool find, even if it is relatively worthless.

Yours may be worth more due to the gold content of the wedding ring in the photo.

Wasn't there a topic here somewhere about oddest or coolest incidental finds while caching?

This looks like a better fit. Nice research.Handyman-N-Fam wrote:Looks like The Mason Distillery was wrong.
