perhaps a new challenge coming???

Post by T-Hunter »

So, I was pondering on one of my drives to Toledo Hospital. I was tossing around the idea of a challenge that may or may not require having hidden an Earth cache and a letterbox hybrid among others. I was just curious who in the area may already be qualified and who may consider qualifying.

I heard about a challenge somewhere that required you to have 20 icons on your "geocaches" tab on your profile. It counted both your finds and hides.
I think I heard about it from Allenite. But I'm not positive.
Is that similar to what you are thinking about, or are you thinking JUST hides?

Yep........just hides And not a large number of finds for a requirement either

I would be interested in completing the challenge. I have an idea for a LB Hybrid, and already have a spot picked out. Maybe I should get to work!
The only problem I see is finding a good spot for an EC around here. There aren't a whole lot of geologically significant features in NW Ohio. The nearest of my 2 EC's is 180 miles away.
What's with asking opinions this time? Did you figure out that NWOGEO members in general don't like challenges placed in their hood?

That's the good thing about EC's. They can be elsewhere. As far as the question goes..............to put it bluntly, to keep the whining down is all.

That is why I am out of the Challenge hiding business.
I am guessing this challenge will be easy for a few, and ignored by others.

I hope a challenge doesn't result in people hiding caches just to complete the challenge. The reason people refrain from some of the cache types, is because a quality cache of those types require a fair amount of work to create.

I just stumbled across a fact that may be detrimental to the creation of this challenge.
You cannot make hiding a cache a requirement for completing a challenge.

I agree with Russ.....looks like unwritten rules may keep it from happening. I wish they had all the rules written out for us to see. As for cachers doing a little work to create one...........that wouls be a good thing given all the lame hides I gave came across. It seems there is barely any creativity in hiding a cache or even a story line to go along with it.

I would agree with Mo, I think you run the risk of encouraging people to make lame EC and letterbox hides. Just because you require people to make that type of hide does not mean that they will put the effort into it.
I am an amazed cacher!

Geez, guess we should've been watching this line of dialogue today.
Instead of watching this disappointing Seahawk/Bear game.

Although much of this all seems deja-vu.

Same goes for a mullti.

"At posted coords look toward building and add the numbers you see to these coords in the form x.xxx".

Then turn around and and walk 50 feet to get the 35mm container out from under the lamp post skirt. Yep that's a multi or could it be a mystery and yep it's lame.

That's close to hides I have found in the past.

Well maybe if there wasn't so many challenge haters, a new idea by someone wouldn't be attacked so quickly. Geesh, it was just a question, relax!

I was thinking of a new mystery..

"I'm thinking of a number between 1 and 850. Add that number to the coords below and use them to find the cache"
