Travel Bug/Geocoin Information
Hello, we are starting a thread here to make out a set of guidelines and etiquette for handling travel bugs and geocoins.
Once we have it written out, we will post it here for everyone to have a look at. If you have any thoughts or ideas you would like to see incorporated, please let us know here.
Hopefully we'll have it posted here in a day or two. Thanks!

-Attempt to move the coin/Bug within 14 days of pick-up. if you can't, post a note to the owner letting them know it still is in safe hands and will be moved along shortly.
- if the Coin/bug's bag is in bad repair, please replace it for the owner. Bags get beat up pretty quick and keeping the bag in good repair will also keep the bug/coin in good shape.

All I can figure is that in the geocoin world the #1 rule is Steal it as soon as you find it.

Re: Travel Bug/Geocoin Information
I think what is needed in addition to the etiquette is a step by step on where and how to log the info (both at the found cache and at the TB page)

Re: Travel Bug/Geocoin Information
We got a few more good ideas from the BG Event. Should these pages include a little about pathtags, travel slugs, and proper etiquette in at events as well? We don't want to create anything overwhelming, but thought maybe touching some of the other types couldn't hurt.

Re: Travel Bug/Geocoin Information
- Explain the three numbers/codes of TB's with their proper names. GC does not make this too clear.
- Don't forget to mention the shortcut to view a TB:
http://coord.info/TB2885
- Regarding Pathtags, and non-GC items, mention them and maybe make a link to another document to learn more.
- Maybe mention what "hitchhikers" or "tag-alongs" are. Maybe as part of a glossary of terms.
- Something else I mentioned at the M&E and forgot.

Re: Travel Bug/Geocoin Information
I think it was about not dumping a bunch of TBs at an event, leaving without any, and leaving the organizers to have to sort them out. Take at least as many TBs from an event as you left.
And don't freak out if the code doesn't work. "O" looks like "0". "E" sometimes looks like "F". We learned last night that "5"s can look like "6" too!

Yes that was it.TeamMina wrote:I think it was about not dumping a bunch of TBs at an event, leaving without any, and leaving the organizers to have to sort them out. Take at least as many TBs from an event as you left.

Any funny we talked about the zeros not being crossed and stuff. Last night I found that my original reply to everyone's PM's about the "500 Club" TB had an "8" and a "B" confused. (Stonger glasses helped fix that issue.)
So there is another one for you!

That's easy to stop. Drill a hole in it and it's worthless to collectors!ScouterJoe wrote:All I can figure is that in the geocoin world the #1 rule is Steal it as soon as you find it.

Re: Travel Bug/Geocoin Information
We have the rough draft written up about etiquette and will get it posted this weekend. We are also working on instructions for logging and activating trackables.
