I also have Ancient Lake as my oldest cache. I think it is one of, if not the oldest in NW Ohio

I'll spread it out for us a little, as I took this sick day to scan through our cache finds to find out:

Oldest cache found: Ancient Lake GC2DBE 1/23/2001
Oldest original geocache found: NovaNikki GC3EF 3/4/2001
Next oldest Ohio: Veteran's Cache GCF40 7/7/2001 (which we were the last to find, still don't understand why Keystone archived it.)

Oldest Indiana cache: Parke Break GCD5F 6/24/2001
Oldest Michigan cache: Crisp Point GC1F07 9/13/2001
Oldest Wisconsin cache: Island Loop GC1534 8/7/2001
Oldest Virtual: TriState Marker GC2018 10/1/2001

I think that's all the one's we've found placed in 2001.

(I do not count Ancient Lake due to some arcane reasoning)

I found this buried away here on our site:
Mr.BBD wrote:Ancient Lake is in Oak Openings and is NWO & Ohio's oldest cache by DATE HIDDEN.

NoviNikki is in Swan Creek and is NW Ohio's oldest cache by DATE SUBMITTED to GC.com.
So NovaNikki has the oldest Geocache Waypoint of GC3EF which is the 1007th Geocache and Ancient Lake is GC2DBE which is the 11,710th submitted to Geocaching.com. Strange but true!
Mr.BBD wrote:Go to find cache in Ohio. They are listed in reverse chronological order, just jump to the LAST page to find the oldest. NovaNikki by GG411 is the 4th oldest active in OH as well.
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?state_id=36

You would then do the same for MI if you wanted.

Also Try this:
If you’d like to figure out which was the first cache hidden in your state, you can create a Pocket Query that’ll tell you. Here’s how:

Under your Account page on Geocaching.com, select, “Build Pocket Queries. Then click “Create a new query, and select the following options:

Within States/Provinces (select yours)

Within radius of 500 miles

Placed During (this is the key field)

Between September 1, 2000 and December 31, 2000
Then click “Submit Information and on the next page, select “Preview the Search. You should now have a list of the first set of geocaches placed in your state. For example, running this query for California returns a list of 16 caches, the oldest being Phil’s Memorial Cache in San Diego County near Big Laguna Lake, placed on September 10, 2000.
Adjust the date, and distance range as desired.
On the NovaNikki cache page GizmoGuy wrote:Stat Notes:
When "NovaNikki" was established on 03/04/01, it became the 1007th Geocaching.com Waypoint to be created. Another cache called " ancient lake" shows that it was hidden on 01/23/01, although it was actually the 11,710th Geocaching.com Waypoint created.
As we understand, this was probably because " ancient lake" was a cache originally created on a system other than Geocaching.com. According to other Waypoints created just before it, " ancient lake" looks like it became a Geocaching.com Geocache close to 12/23/01, despite the hidden date, and initial log dates.
As of 03/13/07, many people consider " ancient lake" to be the oldest active cache in Ohio. In actuality, it is probably the oldest active cache, but not the oldest active Geocaching.com Geocache.

Thanks GG for that info. I did NovaNikki May 31, last year. It was a great cache btw.

Also I just read in the NovaNikki logs that Nikki passed away last December. Please accept my belated sympathy.

I found Mingo(GC30) (5/11/2000) a couple years ago. Oldest active cache in the US, just outside of Colby, Kansas.

Also found the oldest cache in Arizona, Geocache(GC57) . (9/9/2000)

Neat to find these old caches and read the logs!

Several of us found Beverly (Hidden: 5/13/2000), on 11/6/05, while on a caching trip to Chicago.

Oldest active cache, MINGO, GC30, in Kansas, found on 9/2/06.

Oldest in Ohio: Have done both Ancient Lake (on 3/21/2003) and NovaNikki (on 4/10/2003). Both excellent caches.

Hmmm. I'm going to out that way in early October, and was looking for special caches in that area. I just put it on my list. Thanks!

GC57 in Arizona. The hike into the desert was a lot of fun.
