Revolutionary War Graves
Hello all. As many of you know, I'm the advisor for BSA's Order of the Arrow. OA is the honor society within scouting. We are looking to do a service project this spring that would involve cleaning and tending to any revolutionary war graves in northwest ohio. Specifically, Sandusky to Berkey and Toledo to the southern Wood county line. We want to have it done before Memorial Day.
Why, you ask, would I bring this up here. I need to find them. In your geo-travels have you come across any? I've been told there are several in the area. Jimbobwe has Waymarked one in Perrysburg. Does anyone know of any more?

Re: Revolutionary War Graves
There are a couple Civil War graves here in McComb. As for Revolutionary war graves, Ohio wasn't even a territory at that time. Jimmy System know a lot of cemetaries in this area. You should ask him.

Re: Revolutionary War Graves
Some graves sites that qualify may be marked with "SAR" markers for "Sons of the American Revolution".
Note this staked marker on the left edge of Rev Badger that Jimbobwe has Waymarked.
There is a CD available for $30 containing a database of gravesites at: http://store.sar.org/index.php?l=product_detail&p=342
There were battles fought in Sandusky and in places in lower Michigan, so there likely graves in the area from deaths due to battle, besides of those who died after moving here after the war.
Here is a link to battles found in our "Western" area: http://www.sar.org/history/battles/western.html
From a little research I have found only these in NW Ohio so far:
- BADGER, Rev Joseph, Militiaman MA, Perrysburg Cem, Wood County, OH, 1757 - 1846
- DAGGETT, Jacob, Private MA , ? Cem, Sandusky County, OH, 1760 - ?
- VALENTINE, George, Woodland Cem, Bloom Twp, Seneca County, OH, ? - ?
If you want to research SE Michigan, visit the following site, and search Michigan, using just one letter per search from "a" to "z" for the last name. A quick check found more in Hillsdale and Monroe Michigan than in NW Ohio!

Re: Revolutionary War Graves
Unfortunately I haven't found any in our area yet. However, I know it is not the area you are looking at, but Bucyrus has a revolutionary war cemetery that even has a cache in it. It was really neat to look at the difference in the headstones from that time. The cache is GC1DRFT
There isn't any pictures posted on the page but it would be a good place to keep in mind if you just want to go visit.

Re: Revolutionary War Graves
The only one that I can think of off the top of my head is in Grand Rapids. There's a small cemetery across the street from the visitor center cache with a Revolutionary soldier's grave. It's a small cemetery but there's some interesting burials there.

Re: Revolutionary War Graves
The Woodlawn Cemetery website mentions Revolutionary War soldier burials. Also try contacting the SAR or DAR, they should both have information.

Re: Revolutionary War Graves
It seems like we have come across a few in our travels.
The one that comes to mind is the located here, though west of Wood County:
SQ-Old Evansport Cemetery (GC1FQV0)
I'll see if the wife has a sharper memory than I do (at midnight).

Re: Revolutionary War Graves
Here's one near Castalia and it could use some sprucing up. The marker says WAR instead of SAR. N41 23.790 W082 48.001. The geocache nearby was my # 1772, dang.
