If someone doesn't want a cache found then why hide it. I heard a story about a cache that was hard to find. When someone finally did find it they started telling their buddies how to find it. Once the owner found out he archived it.
I agree that some can be VERY frustrating. If the difficulty level is set high enough, then that it just that kind of cache. The fun of caching can be the hunt itself, and not just the gratification of the final find.

Some people like guardrail caches, others like level 5 puzzle caches. To each their own. Personally I like both. It just depends on my mood and time available.

So I tend to agree more with the hider who archived his cache once people started giving away spoilers. The cache was indeed "spoiled" by those cheating to claim another smiley.

We have a new cache in Toledo that just popped up that may well fit the description you mentioned!

I looked at this Hans Brinker cache, and gave it about 5 minutes of playing with it, which is a little more than double what I normally allow puzzle caches. :P Closed out the page and did something else. My curiosity got the better of me, and I Googled Hans Brinker just to see what/who he was. Armed with that info, and staring at that pic for a little bit more, I got out the mapping programs and looked around (it was a slow day...). Something popped up, and I thought for sure I had it. No coords, but a very likely hiding place that had 3 cache-related things going for it. I sent my idea to the Cheechmeister, just to see what he thought of the hunch. Actually, I was hoping he'd jump in his cachemobile and haul it down to Sunbury and look around at my "hunch spot". He didn't fall for that one.

So, on my way back Wednesday from completing the Ohio 88 county thing, I stopped in Sunbury since I was going right thru it anyway. Looked and looked at the suspect area, but no cache found.

Dang. I still think there are too many coincidences for it not to be there.

Hey y'all! I'm from Southern Indiana and just happened to run across the Hans Brinker cache from a Podcacher link. I haven't looked at it all that closely yet, but a couple of questions did spring to mind that I thought I'd run by anyone who might happen to be still searching for a solution.

1) What kind of fish are those? Red herrings, maybe? :-)

2) Has anyone sourced the picture? When I looked in the source code, the URL for the link to the pic is the following: http://img.geocaching.com/cache/log/8a2 ... f71a96.jpg

That means this pic is linked to someone's log for some other cache. It's not in the gallery on the Hans Brinker page and it's not in SBK's gallery (via their profile page), so that tells me it's someone else's picture and most likely not altered in any way.

Just wondering if anyone has been down that road and figured out whose picture it is and what cache log it's attached to. That might help figure out the mystery. Hope this helps someone!

Be advised that there are other places to put your own doctored photos on GC.com that will neither appear in your photo gallery, nor on any page visible to other users.

I spoke to the owner the other day on the telephone and I mentioned the picture. He said what he did was something he tried while trying to solve someone elses cache.

I have looked at it a time or two, but if the best and brightest can't solve it, then I have no chance.
