Gizmo stated in one of the topics somewhere that GC could run out of numbers. How could this be possible. Washington manages to go a trillion dollars in debt. They can count those numbers ok, and they don't even use the alphabet (yet) in their computations. GC doesn't even come close to a trillion. If the problem is the number of digits that will fit onto a gps, then just drop the gc from in front of all the waypoints. How many more cache numbers would that be? Billions?

Somewhere I mentioned that by my crude calculations, GC will run out of waypoint numbers around the middle of January.
Of course their solution is to just add another digit. The last I checked, they did NOT plan on dropping the "GC" prefix yet.
So that means old GPS units may not hold the entire waypoint id once the additioal digit

How many people actually use the waypoint name GCxxxx on their GPS units. We use a drop two with added characters from GSAK including type, container, difficulty and terrain. A majority of people whom I have cached with though use the smart names and they would not be affected by the extra character in GC.com.

I change the cache ID and use the abbreviated form of the cache name.

I always go for the cache name, as it makes me connect with the cache. A 6-7 character designation does nothing for me to really enjoy a cache. It's all in the name. Just check out RR2K#L and you'll see what I mean.
I don't understand why cachers seek the waypoint 6-character name, and not the Keywords. It's all part of the Hunt.
