Link to the company website: http://www.pharosgps.com/products/all-in-one/PTL525.htm

Looks very interesting!

• I'm impressed that it has the SiRFstarIII receiver, which is the same chip that my Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx has which picks up sat signals indoors!

• Their specs don't mention battery life. That would be very important for geocaching. I know with my cell phone and laptop, that WiFi and Bluetooth drain the battery fast.

• I could not find any waterproof rating. Another important factor for geocachers.

I'm disappointed just that Garmin did not make this first!

Please buy one so we can all see it! LOL

You may have to do a "show and tell" with all the features it has! Of course now you are obliged to find out the battery life. Not sure how you would go about testing the waterproofness however! :)

Actually I was teasing. I did notice the expiration date. Which brings me to a story.

Last Spring I called Garmin to inquire about availability of an update to my mapping software. The tech suggested that I wait until the fall, as he expected a new version to be available that should have upgrade pricing.

I waited. The software however was scrapped, and a newly named software took it's place, with no upgrade price from the old named software.

I elected to pass.

Fast forward to a couple months ago. I buy the new 60CSx. Now I am interested again in the new software. I go online and discover that a month after I checked in the fall, they instituted a upgrade pricing policy that applied to me.

The punch line? Of course the upgrade policy had just ended two days before I discovered it.

To add to the aggravation, Garmin had never emailed me about anything regarding the software, even though I am signed up to get notifications for just about everything.

Now I come to find out that the mapping software that my new 60CSx requires to do internal routing is different anyway.

It was a great to see that your unit comes with mapping software and other goodies at no extra charge. To buy the most equivalent Garmin GPSr, with software and accessories, would have cost you considerably more! I hope the competition changes that!

Naw.. the NUVI is more like Garmin's answer to compete against the "Tom Tom" they advertise on TV. Although it has batteries, it is really intended for cars, not outdoor use.

"Case: Not waterproof or IPX0"

Also note:
"Battery life: 4 to 8 hours depending on usage"
