I bought a 60csx and City Navigator 7, just over a year ago. Started out with a 1Gb card, with a number of nearby states and Ontario on the card.

Just upgraded to 2Gb card ~$40 and put the entire US and most of Canada (107 maps, 1537Mb) on it.

Mrs.W2 just got me a 60Cx. What a great b-day present!

We haven't been out with it so far, but I did the updates and loaded some caches into it. Pretty easy to use.

Let me just skip to my questions.

1. What map do I need to buy? City Navigator8, or City Navigator8 NT?
2. Can a 2gig micro-SD card hold all of either on one card? Should I do this? (So I can just put the whole map in and be done with it.)
3. I've seen how Mr BBD somehow changed the waypoint name to contain digits that include descriptive information, like difficulty, size, etc. Is this done by hand, or as a batch process? Is there a primer somewhere on how to do this?

That's all my ?s so far...

I'll let someone else tackle #3.

As far #1, I did not know there was a NT version of CN. If someone else does not answer first, I'll look into it and reply later.

For #2 , you should be able to the entire US and part of Canada on a 2gb chip.

I recently replaced my 1Gb card with a 2Gb card - the price was right (see my post on 5/15).

You might want to download the POI Loader. With this, you can store custom POI (points of interest) on your memory card. I use it to store semi-permanent waypoints that I don't want to delete (like my home coordinates). You could also use it to get around the 1000 waypoint limitation of the device (I had 2000+ stored on my unit when I went to California last year).

I've heard tell that some bears may be clawing for a new 60CSx with all the fixings very soon. Hope they have re-read the recently updated information in the lead post of this thread!

Thanks for the POI Loaded info 2truxs! It has also been added to the lead post.

Q1. I have CN8 just recently found about NT, the difference, I do not know.
Q2. I uploaded the CN maps of the lower 48 w/ TOPO of OH, IN, MI. It all fit, but the maps never regenerated quick enough to use it so I went back to the 64Mb card.
Q3. It's all in GSAK, customize to suit.

Garmin wrote:Our City Navigator North America NT v8 DVD and data cards include the same detailed maps, points of interest and coverage areas as our traditional City Navigator North America data, just compressed differently for your NT compatible unit. It also includes traffic data that allows certain units to use traffic receivers.
The latest GPSMAP units all look compatible to the NT version. However the traffic data would not be usable.

From what I have read, when they say "comresssed differently" they mean compress tighter.

So if you only have one GPS Unit and it is the "N"ew "T"echnology, then buy the NT version. However if you have an older none NT or mutiple units and they are not both NT, then buy the regular version.

Now I want to know if I can trade up my regular version for the NT version!

You can add me to the list, I've got a 60csx now. I also purchased the auto navigation kit and it only comes with the regular City Navigator Version, not the NT (Garmin said so).
