I'm one of the lucky people who never seems to be affected by poison ivy. I do get it occasionally, but I really have to be into the ivy to get it. Poison sumac is another thing all together though for me... Luckily, there isn't much of that around here.

Never have had it either... And I know I have walked in it barefooted.

Never tried chewing it though!

I'm just getting over my first rash of 06. I may stay out of the woods till tomorrow.

I have always had good luck with a product called Rhuli-Gel. I haven't much luck locating it though. It is hard to find. When I do find it I buy 2-3 tubes of it so I don't run out very fast.

It looks like the reason you have had trouble finding it by that name, may be because Johnson & Johnson bought S.C. Johnson & Son who made RHULI Brand products back in 1998-9 and eventually changed the name to BAND-AID Anti-Itch Gel. Their web site also shows a spray available.

My brief research showed that many people agree with McCombRef as to its effectiveness for Poison Ivy. Of course we won't know if these rebranded priducts are as effective as the orginal RHULI Gel until someone like McCombRef volunteers to roll around in some Poison Ivy to test it out!

I just purchased a one of a kind product called Tick Release that helps remove ticks (about 25% back out on their own), so now it looks like I should add BAND-AID Anti-Itch Gel to my list of first aid items to add to my vehicle!

Looking at my previous post and the rash on my left wrist, it looks like I should not have said anything! I think the oils got caught under a watch band, as the rash is almost a nice ring... I think I came in contact with it in my garden of all things.

Well I hope I did not speak too soon either! We'll see what happens after our CITO event on the 10th!

I had a case on my forearms last year. When I asked the pharmacist what was best to use he rolled up his sleeves and showed me a worse case than mine. He told me a trick that worked pretty good. I would run water as hot as I could stand on the rash and it would burn and get redder at first as expected, then came a period of relief, no itching etc, it settlled it down. The pharmacist told me that the hot water tends to dry the skin out and this is what gives the relief. I dont think it speeded up the healing process as it seemed to run its course but it sure gave some relief.

On Mythbusters they determined that Vodka applied to a rash is an ineffective old wives' tale being a PI remedy. When enough is consumed however, you no longer care bout your rash.

Anybody know where BAND-AID Anti-Itch Gel is available locally? I've tried Rite-Aid and Kroger with no luck.


Edit: Some Rite-Aids do carry it. The 1st one I stopped at did not, but the one near Wernerts Corners in West Toledo does.

Should have tryed this when I knocked out Gibsonburg LAST (sorry, wrong thread) summer. I was covered in PI.
