New gc feature

Post by GrizzFlyer »

I'm liking that sort-of new feature on geocaching dot com, that allows you to enter new coords for an individual cache. Click on the little pencil icon next to the coordinates on the cache page, and that will allow you to plug in new coords. Very useful for multi's, and puzzle caches. When you solve a puzzle, change the new coords to the final, and then in the future when you do a PQ it will give the updated coords. Only the account that changed the coords can see the new coords. They can also be changed back to the original coords if desired.

I don't know about anyone else, but I love this feature. After updating coords I put "solved" into personal cache notes so that I know that there the true coords.

I haven't really had a chance to use this yet, but it seems like a great update.

Someone told me that if you change the coords, a "Send to GPS" brings the corrected coords down to your GPS but if you run a PQ it will still have the posted coords. This info is not confirmed by myself.

Not certain how this is better than just entering the solved coordinates into the notes section.

It sends it to your GPS with the solved coords, also shows on the maps with the solved coords

I guess it is better because you can Send the updated coords to your GPS and go hunt.

I use GSAK and enter the corrected coords there, then create a PQ or send to GPS from GSAK.

If the PQ is run and then immediately viewed, the updated coords are there. That was what I was looking at. However, I just confirmed that the original coords are displayed in the PQ that is emailed to you. Thanks for letting us know that. It is a major error, and should be corrected. Takes away a lot of the purpose behind this feature.

They know about it and are supposedly planning on incorporating it into PQ's in the future. We'll see.

Sure it is great for solved puzzles, but it does nothing to help you solve them!

It can help if you are peeking over the shoulder at a solvers laptop...

If you click on the blue squiggly in just the right spot, and are chanting the magical blue squiggly mantra, the correct coords will appear for .006 seconds.

Don't blink.

It only works once per cache per cacher.
