Xmas Toys

Post by yogi57 »

I thought that I will start a thread where we can put down some of the tech gifts we get for Christmas.

I got a new baby for Christmas. Much more high tech than those robots. Doesn't do much right now except eat, poop, and sleep but each day he learns from his environment. Over the next year he should be able to retrieve whatever daddy needs. Now that is high tech. Of course since I got a baby for Christmas, I can't afford anything else. Another year with my Garmin 60, just tap it on the side and the screen comes back up...

I got a Nuvi 760. It dosn't say the street namers. I could Garmin. After I told them I down loaded the software twice. They told me I should take it back to where I bought and see if I can get a replacement. I have lived with out my street pilot
gps say street names so I don't think its a big deal. I found 7 caches with it Saturday. It doesn't tell you how many feet to the cache-you have an arrow (off road). Using a macro from GASK I have all the web cache pages on my gps

I didn't get any tech per se, but I just got my replacement for my non-operable 60CX.

Just before the Shindig, for some crazy reason, the buttons on the front of my GPS stopped working. Garmin e-mailed the return info, and we sent it off. After 2 weeks we wrote to ask the status, and were sent the UPS tracking number, only to find it showed as "delivered" to the "garage" a week before. We checked all around the outside of the house, but never received it.

So we figured we we were out a $250 machine, especially when UPS they played dumb and claimed it was actually a DHL shipment (which they bought out). So we contacted Garmin if they could help track it for us, since UPS kept saying only the shipper could file a claim. Instead, the very nice lady at Garmin sent us a brand new one and would deal with UPS directly for the claim.

So getting my machine back by Christmas is like a gift, and Garmin is wonderful to customers. However, UPS is not. Garmin put the replacement in as "requires receipt notification". And Sheryl, who was home all day, found it on the porch when she left for work. Hmmmm...

We got a new battery for our laptop computer. The first battery only last 11 months and now it dies after 5 minutes. The new battery will help when we need to move around more and don't want to be tied down by electricity.

Just a few low tech items for me.

A picture frame to hold some of my pathtags. I put a few of my NWO friends tags on it: TMA, Yogi57, BBD, and the Bearclaws.

And, a couple of cache containers. I just need to find a pine tree. 8-)

My geo-mom got me a TB t-shirt so I can be discovered for Christmas. And for my birthday (yeah, they're together almost!) she got me a TB stick-on for my Jeep so it can be discovered. Next meet-n-eat I make it to (probably in May!) I'll have it all with me to discover.

So, today I got my b-day present from the hubby, yup, new Colorado! Had to go try it out. Works great! I will have to play around some more with it & see what all the features are. Festool (my father-in-law) is downloading all the maps & stuff for me right now. Hey, it's kinda x-mas-ish since my birthday is so close!

I didn't get anything too techy this year, but I did get a cap with two LED lights at the end of the bill.
Oh, and after having send my Explorist 500 in for repairs in early November, I just called Magellan and they said they would be sending me a replacement some day.
