On September 4th, (Launched September 6th, late due to Hurricane Hanna), a new GeoEye-1 hi res imaging satellite will be launched.
Black and white images will have a 16" ground resolution capability with 1/2 meter (~19.7") resolution images available to the public. Color image resilution will be about 64" or about twice as good as current images.
Google has signed an exclusive deal, to use GeoEye-1's images.
They also promise "very accurate geolocation" (about 9'), so soon may be able to leave your GPS unit at home, and just view a cache's location, before you leave home!
Currently the best public images are available from Microsoft's "Bird's Eye View" on maps.live.com, so the images may put Google back into the lead for the best imagery.

Wouldn't this be cool if this was in real time and you could watch cachers hunt your boxes, or direct Barnacal Bear to a find?
