Should we continue the calendar or not?

Please respond to the pole attached to this message.

A system administrator has suggested that we eliminate the "Calendar" module that is current on our system.

The removal was suggested for the following reasons:

1) The format of the Event Listing on the home page, and the Event Forums, better serve how we need to present geocaching Event info.

2) The Calendar is an additional duplication that requires upkeep by the administrators.

3) In a couple of past instances, event changes were not reflected in the Calendar due to an administration oversight, resulting in some confusion with a few members.

4) The Calendar module is a third party module, and may not remain available for future system updates.

If you have not used the Calendar Module, look for it under the "Information" category of the Menu in the left column.

I think we should dump it.

I also think we should go back to 10 messages in the New Forum Posts section instead of thirty. Most of the messages are old and it takes a long time to roll back around to the newer ones.

The only time I've ever gone into calendar is to see what all of our visitors are looking at. Some of them sure do like to plan things way in advance.

Without the calendar the data-mining-search-o-bots would be out of work.

Based on the pole attached to this topic thread, the calendar function for our site has been disabled, and this topic is now closed.

Thanks for the input everyone!

We will also explore an alternative to McCombRefs suggestion to revert the scrolling latest post list on the front page from 30 to 10.
