I have no personal experience to share with you (knock on wood), but I believe the sooner it dries out the better. Maybe use a hair dryer on low for a while?

After doing the same thing to my Sport Map it started getting horizontal bars on the display. After a few months it was unreadabel. I sent it to Magellen and got a discount on the Meridian like yours. The cover never would get tight, and I could slide a credit card under the cover. Magellen said that was normal, but would still be waterproof. I doubted them then, and now I'm even more sure that it was a design flaw. I've been hearing great things about the new Garmins Sad

I had a boss who did that with his Nextel on a girl scout hike. He rinsed it in distilled water three or four times and let it dry for a few days before turning it back on. It was fine. I think he may have used a hairdryer on it too. I know he was concerned it would rust.

Hehehehehe.

All of these devices (Cell phones too) are low voltage DC electronics.

As such, if it's not salt water, and it's not more then a few minutes exposure, you can usually save it. Corrosion is your enemy here.

1) REMOVE POWER RIGHT AWAY - power will make it corrode quickly.
2) Remove cover and remove excess water.
3) Let it dry - do not apply power until you are *SURE* it's dry. Wait till you think it is, then wait a few more days.
4) Distilled water, or better yet, electronics contact cleaner will help you here - it will eat away any corrosion.

Go pick some contact cleaner up from Radio Shack and hit it with a blast, let it dry, and reassemble - it might come back to life.

Like Jason said....

Plus... while the hair drier was ok to use, it should only be used at a very low heat or cold setting. Heat is almost as much of an enemy to electronics as water.

It could also help to use some "canned air" to blow under components as the air flow is more intense than a hair drier.

If you can find a desiccant such as silica gel, or calcium sulfate, it can be put in a zip lock bag with the unit for a couple of days to help absorb any remaining moisture. While I doubt that Radio Shack would sell any, it may be available at a gun store as used to store guns.

It also comes with new shoes. Excuse to get new hiking shoes?

There you go Grizz! Instead of buying a new 60CSx as BBDs suggest, you can buy some new hiking shoes. some other electronics you need, and a new gun, and use all the Silca Gel you get to dry out your slighly damp GPSr!

Did you also see that GPSr that TheButterflyEffect mentioned here? Pretty impressive until you get the missing specs for battery life and WATER PROOFNESS.
