My daughter and I located our first cache this afternoon, and we managed without a GPS. It was fun and she wants to do more, but we'll have to get a unit first unless there's another find as obvious as that one. It was really interesting looking at the log and seeing how many other people geocache!! It was also fun trying to find it without attracting attention.

CONGRATS! Which did you find...I guess I can look it up on the GC.com site. I thought you were going to blow up before you found one!!!

It was the one at the cart corral in the Farmer Jack parking lot. Pretty easy to find, even though I had no idea what the waterproof matchstick holder looked like. The best part about it was that my daughter wanted to check out the rest of the town and find more. Laughing But I told her we have to get a GPS first, otherwise we'll be wandering around like lost puppies forever.

I had some time to do some comparing and found a nice link that compares a Garmin to a Magellan. Here's the link: reviews.cnet.com/4504-...2&x=57&y=7

Also, I'm already looking for ammo boxes for my first hide. I don't know what I'll put in it yet, but I have the perfect area already picked out!

As for logging my find on gc.com...I am still trying to figure out how to do that. My account got activated literally three minutes ago. Embarassed heh heh

Try Military Surplus Plus in Perrysburg, or Woodville Surplus on Rt 51.

Great suggestions, thank you. What do most people use? Metal ammo boxes or plastic?

I haven't seen a whole lot of plastic ammo boxes, probably 'cause they are more expensive than the $2-5 for a metal ammo can. Some times I use clear plastic containers depending on the area. I don't want to cause any alarm for anyone who trips across it accidentally. I usually re-paint the container. I read on another forum that the yellow print comes off with fingernail polish remover as well.

Patience grasshopper... I would wait to hide a cache until you have found 20-30 caches, hid from a variety of cachers. You kind of see that there is a way to hide a cache that makes the maintenence easier, and is less likely to cause you problems.

Good Dog wrote an article at one time on how to hide a cache, that was a nice resource for us when we started. I think it's on this site somewhere...

Heh, well I'm into this now. I wanna find more, more, more! And it's driving me crazy knowing there's a cache hidden within 265 feet of Jed's in Maumee. I want to go look for it, but without a GPS it would be kinda difficult.

I suppose it's a good idea for me to wait until I find some caches before I hide one myself, so I can get an idea of the whole process. But I can't help myself...this seems like sooo much fun.

Here's a question on another topic...my user ID on gc.com is Team Apolllo (named after our English Mastiff, of course)...cuz I decided after joining this site that the kids and I could work together. Will that cause a problem with my finds showing up on this site? Are this site and that one linked somehow as far as the footers for the stats go?

Regarding the "Fireballs!" cache...since we own it...the coords are for the large strip mall sign. You know it's 265 feet away, so it's in 1 of 2 general areas in front of the mall...then you look and see whether to take the one on the left or right by the title and hint...the hide itself is very typical of urban micros, which won't help you NOW, but in the future. If you find this one, the hint will likely lead you to another area hide with a little time looking up the cache waypoint it refers to...

That's a question for jslagle...I'll post this same question in the website "suggestion" section...I figure he'll see it easier there! I wouldn't think that'd matter!

We found it, but the credit goes to my daughter because she was the one with the good eye this time. The place was busy and we did our best not to attract attention. I'm sure we looked a bit strange to some, however. Razz Found a couple of things in the cache, but not sure yet what they are supposed to reveal for another cache. Great hiding spot!!!
