Question I am planning to buy a new gps system soon for under 400 dollars. Does anybody have any suggestions on what works well for geocaching? Also any suggestions on what NOT to get? Any replies are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have magellan sportrak pro and I like it. Magellan Meridian Gold is a good choice also. But both of these is out of production but availiable and magellan will still support them. You might also check out Magellan Explorist 500. No matter what kind you get it should have a data cable port so you can upload maps and waypoints.Explorist 500Meridian GoldSportrak Pro

Wow that website has Gps systems for a lot lower than anywhere else I have seen. And they aren't used either. Thanks a lot. We are still discussing it though. Do you think that we need the more detailed software to load onto the Gps? Also is it worth it to pay $30 more and get the magellan 600 or is the 500 all we will need?

It got a few extra features but it will also drain your batteries quicker if it's like Meridian Platium series.(Just ask my sister, she knows)
Also wait to hear from the Garmin users, the Garmin is also a good brand.(if you can't get a Magellan Laughing ) On the prices check around also because there are other sites that has better prices. I never can find them until I order. I can give you a copy of Mapsend S&D for your maps.

We have a GPS Map60C and really enjoy it. This new CitySelect software we purchased tells you turn by turn directions to the cache. I do not have anything against Magellans, the color display was better on the Garmin than the Magellan at the time of purchase. We also have Topo software which we bought first, then added CitySelect, some sort of mapping software is needed. We will buy Garmins from here on out, thay have a good warrenty program for units for one year. It costs more, but we have used over $400 in Cabelas points to support our addiction. - Mr. BBD

I guess that we decided we are tired of my old gps and went ahead and ordered the Magellan eXplorist 600. My dad wants the compass and altimiter thing on it so we went with the 600 model.

Here are the main reasons why I need a new gps. On my old PDA/gps:

1) I had to convert the coordinates every time before we could enter the coords.
2) I couldn't directly type coords into the old one. i had to just walk around until the numbers moved the right direction for multi-caches.
3) It wouldn't count down the distance to the caches.

Well we just took it out to be FTF on the two new caches that BBD put out in Wauseon and we also did SQ-Wauseon History Lesson while we were there too. It is a lot better than what we were using. I love all of the added features.

I got an eXplorist 600 just last week, after having used a yellow eTrex to start out, then going to a Magellan Meridian Gold. I have to say I'm still in the Merigold mode, so the eXplorist is a little more difficult for me at the moment, but I'll get used to the differences. I do much prefer the eXplorist as far as size, and then there is the color thing...
